Jill Mathias is the executive chef of Chez Nous, a traditional European restaurant, serving food from southern France, nothern Italy, and northern Spain. She came to Chez Nous from Carolina's, the elegant Southern restaurant that once resided in the Market district downtown. Mathias grew up in Fargo, ND. She went to college for art history before attending culinary school at Johnson & Wales. She moved around the US, cooking in places like Puerto Rico and Martha's Vineyard, before making Charleston her permanent home.
